Now in its twenty-second year, Billie Jean Young’s one-woman production, Fannie Lou Hamer: This Little Light has been performed to much acclaim throughout the world.  She first shared her interpretation of the great freedom fighter’s life with a packed house of civil rights and community people at Tougaloo College in Mississippi in 1983.  Many of Mrs. Hamer's friends and colleagues were in the audience, but all present were mesmerized by her performance, which they heartily endorsed.  In the words of Unita Blackwell, Chairwoman for the Fannie Lou Hamer: This Little Light 20th Anniversary Committee:

For those of us who knew Mrs. Hamer, Young's performance is nothing short of magical—a touch of reality...like being transported back to the Sixties when Mrs. Hamer—the  strong, dignified, majestic grassroots woman from the Mississippi Delta—lived and walked among us.

In the decades since then, This Little Light has been performed over 600 times throughout the United States and in China, India, Africa, Canada, and the Caribbean.
